About Me

In my constant exploration of the creative world, I have found that the most important aspect of the media I regularly consume is their narratives and the emotions they help invoke. I have always strived to find the best solutions to invoke these same emotions in my own audience. While I still have decades left in my journey, I have already had many amazing opportunities to broaden my knowledge and be influenced and inspired by other talented artists.

The path that led me to a career in computer graphics began with my exposure to television, games, and novels. I would construct hypothetical scenarios based on the stories I divulged in and try to breathe life into these ideas by putting them on paper. A still image or a piece of writing wasn't enough to sate my interest though. Through friends and family, I was introduced to the games developed by Blizzard Entertainment, which were great for fostering my creativity; the tools bundled with these games allowed me to build my own scenarios and surpass the figurative wall that had previously stood before me.

My blind meanderings through the internet led me to some brilliant people and projects. I saw what others were creating and was overcome with inspiration. I lacked the knowledge to develop my ideas further, so I turned to the people who were fueling my creativity and begged for their help. One site, the Hive Workshop, maintained an open forum where its users could request the creation of resources for their projects. With no promise of compensation, my pleas went unheard. I refused to let this stop me so, blinded by my childish optimism, I began the arduous journey of learning to create the assets I required for my projects.

Over the next couple years I gained a basic understanding of digital art and 3D modelling and when I returned to the internet to share what I had learned, people were much more receptive. I did my best to tag along, learn from others, and join in on what projects I could. I was young and I watched one by one as the people I had grown close to got older and moved on with their lives. The occasional exception existed, however, and, rather than moving on, some of these people transitioned their talents from hobbies into careers. I endeavoured to follow their lead.

When the time came to head off to university, I chose the Digital Visual Effects diploma program at Capilano University. I was shoved into a small group of students all with wonderfully diverse backgrounds and talents. For one year I remained in the program, became familiar with my classmates, enjoyed the facilities, and had the privledge of working on some great projects, both on set and in post-production. From there I transitioned to the university's new 3D Animation for Film and Games diploma program, a successor to the eight month program that preceded it. With my decision came an additional eight months for me to perfect my craft. I met a new batch of instructors and two subsequent years of new students. I gave myself the time I needed to explore the many facets of the industry with as open a mind as possible.

With the support of my peers, I was launched into a career as a Junior Modeler and Surfacing Artist at ICON Creative Studio. Now, as a recent entrant into the industry, I am on my way to following the lead of those who have inspired and guided me to this point in my career.
